Number 18 Again

item 18, spreadsheets could be used to maintain what a person has read or even what a person wishes to read. Or we could use them to maintain genre lists, etc.

Item 18

Re opened google spreadsheet. It opened differently than the first time I tried to open it. i set up a small spreadsheet to log my locomotives with. This list in not a full list as I do not have the complete list with me. But, I can go back and add or subtract as needed now.

Item 24, 6:00 P.M, 28 Dec 07

Finally reached the end. Best discovery: Library Thing. Has this program assisted or affected my lifelong learning goals. Yes- but there were some items I will not try again, unless I have some guidance. Tools that I will continue to use. Library Thing, tagging and Del.icio.us and perhaps myspace. What could be done to improve this program. Have some additional classes on each subject. Maybe one or two a month, especially for us none Techno Types. Would I participate in further programs. Yes I would.

I would like to thank Mel, Chad and Stephanie for aiding me throughout this program.

Item 20

Returned to item 20. I missed it prior. I found pandora, which I tried and the computer froze on me so I tried another. I found Listdump.com.
This is a site with lists of various items. right away, I found a site that I liked. "The Most Beautiful Mountain Ranges in the United States. I stated before that I like mountains and this was great. This site would be very useful for students and others who need a list of items for various projects.

Podcasts

I went into three sites: podcast.net and podcastalley.com were not easily used. I did go to podfeed.net and listened to Danny and the Junior on Octane 365. Added blogline from Octane 365. Not very happy with any of them.

My Library DV

I had already used this program at home several months ago. I watched an old silent film for kicks. I had also watched two travel films, one about Germany and one about Switzerland. Both were very informative. I did note that there are movies about home improvement, which I do on a regular basis, and they may furnish me the information I need.

R.E.A.D.S

Signed in to READS. Added the Sea Wolf to my cart. Could not download at work. Will download at home. Searched for several titles but was unsucessful as these were some older books. I actually prefer an actual book over READS. This feature could be very helpful for someone who is an invalid or just cannot get to the library. This could be used by someone who prefers audios over books.

Youtube Videos

Found a site about Maerklin Model Trains, which I quickly had to explore. Also discovered several other sites that I wish to see. I did like the fact that this information was availble. The video was a bit jerky and difficult to see. Loved library dominoes. Mentioned my plans to do this at Smyrna, but Mrs. Sally said that she does this on Sundays.

This site could be used for many things, such as posting events, book topics, how to use equiptment, etc or even dominoes.

Eon and Bookspoke

I have visited both sites. while on bookspoke I found a book that I hope read. Title: the Secrets of the M*A*S*H Mess: the lost receipes of Private Igor. "If the enemy doesn't kill you, the cuisine has a fighting chance.

On Eon: Since I am over the legal age of fivety, I may use this site.

My Space

Google Docs

Was not able to log in for some reason or the other. Will try again later.

Zoho

I found that Zoho spreadsheet and word a little more difficult, but I did like the Appointment book.

LPLS wiki

Went of LPLS wiki and posted"Locating an item" in the circulation manual. However the machine that I used was logged in for Stephanie Jones.

Wikis

Went to the SJCPL wiki and discovered some interesting things that wikis can do. Looking at something that we may want to use. Really liked the Library Sucess wiki. Left a comment on the wiki for The Bull Run Library.

item 15.

Into a new world of librarianship: Glad to hear that techno-worship is not the reason for libraries to go technological. Trendspotter seems to a way which could perhaps lower operating expenses by not purchasing excessive books. Our "Just in case" collection has been gathering dust for some time now. If we are going techno, and the University of Nevada, Reno has experienced a 55 % drop in circulation, why are we worried? Can we get to par in the near future with what others are doing? I for one, will probably be retired before I could catch on to the new methods, but for the newer staff members, these should be a treat tool. If we could teach the patrons with minimum effort that would be great, but if we do need to train the patrons in detail then further training for us is needed

Amending Library Thing

This is my library thing catalog. I did want you to think I was fudging, but I was not.

Technorati

Very Interesting. Found 19966 results from a general search. Used quotes then it narrowed the search to 2303 results. Discovered "Happy Little Trees" which is about Bob Ross, a deceased painter who loved happy little trees. Then searched learning 2.0 and discovered a result from a German student. E-Learning 2 null in the blog directory. Learned about the blog posts as well.

Tagging

I have discovered how tagging and delicious function. Could be a useful tool when a patron is looking for a particular website. Found "What Do We Read Next" on this exercise.

Rollo

Just posted Rollo. Added 1 search engine for three sites. This is for model railroading. Used help from Mel. Plan on using rollo at home as well.

Library thing

Now, here is something I can use and it was much more friendly than the other items. Plan on using this site frequently.

Item 10

Actually I had completed item 10 before 8 and 9. Posted the picture on the breakroom door of our facility.

Item # 8 and 9

Completed items 8 & 9. Very difficult to work. Having to close one window and then going back to the next. Plus every time I start to think I am understanding what is happening a patron shows up and I have to stop and help. Darn old patrons!!!

Map of Nashville

by the way, this map is not upto date, since it is from about 1908. Well before any of us were born.

Nashville Map

I like maps almost as well as mountains. This application should be great for someone who does searches for various things and cannot make it to the local library right away.

Nashville Public Library Digital Collection

I really enjoyed the Nashville Public Library's digital collection. Plan on using it more. Great way to gather info and photos.

Mashup tools

I have worked on the ID Card of the mashup. The instructions were to me a bit confusing so I enlisted the aid of Mel. Interesting. although the image I chose was a bit large but when I have a moment I plan on reducing the image.

Thing # 4

The choice that I made for this thing was the Testing and Education Reference Center.

what made me choose this item: Due to the fact that we cannot keep the printed matter on our shelves, thus we have another avenue to help our patrons.

How useful. Very informative

Did I find anything surprising. Not as of yet. do expect to find something as I search this area.

When would I recommend this to a patron. Anytime a patron a patron requests aid with something that I believe would be in this area.

thing 5

I think that this application could be used for patrons who need a photo from a library and cannot travel to that facility for whatever reason.

Thing 5

Photo of the Carolton Branch of the Linebaugh Library System. Carolton is a fictional town located on the semi permanent model railroad layout of the Nashville N-Trak Organization. Carolton may be seen at the Tennessee Railroad Museum.

7 and 1/2 Things

The most difficult thing for me is # 6. The language that the technology uses is confusing. However, once I have learned what to do, then is becomes somewhat easier.

The easistis perhaps # 5. I learned that if I use templates and other devices to make things go much better, then I will not hesitate to use them.
